towns without cars

[by SR] Like many others, I’m sure, I’ve often fantasized about towns without cars – would it be feasible?  Maybe have a light rail line and perhaps routes for emergency services and perhaps shuttles for the elderly and disabled… but otherwise, no cars.  Anyhow, I just came across this interesting article in today’s New York Times: “In German Suburb, Life Goes On Without Cars”.
